Posted

STERLING — Families looking for some free fun on the water can attened the Second annual Arenac County Alcohol-Free Family Canoe Trip will be held Sunday Aug. 8, from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. at White’s Canoe Livery in Sterling.

The canoe trip is free and open to the public.

“The event is about having a good time with family,” event coordinator Lori Jacques said. “It’s free to whoever wants to come.”

Jacques said that the canoe trip should take about two hours to complete on the Rifle River.

She said the trip was a success last year, and because of a grant from federal and state funds, the trip was able to happen again this year.

“We had a successful turnout last year,” Jacques said. “Canoeing is easy for anyone to do, and it’s a great way to bring the family together.”

She added that so far a good amount of people have registered for the trip.

“If 100 people come out, that would be great; if 200 come out, that would be even better,” Jacques said.

Free pizza and drinks will be served at White’s Canoe Livery in Sterling from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. From there, a bus will take participants upstream where they will canoe or kayak down the Rifle River back to White’s Canoe Livery.

To sign up, contact Lori at 989- 654-3501 at the Sterling Area Health Center.

The event is sponsored by the Arenac Drug and Alcohol Containment Task Force.
