Sheriff: Quiet Christmas on the roads

ARENAC COUNTY — Despite Christmas travel, there were only 12 accidents reported on Christmas Eve, Christmas and the ensuing weekend.

Sheriff James Mosciski said the combination of roads that were kept fairly clear of ice and snow, along with less movement, led to the quiet holiday.

“We had a few cars in the ditches and that was it,” he said. “I don’t think we had the traffic that we did in the past. … There weren’t many people moving around.”

He added there were no major injuries in the accidents, or any traffic fatalities.

“The officers did a lot of patrolling, there just wasn’t much going on,” Mosciski said.

Of the 12 property damage or personal injury accidents, eight occurred on either Christmas Eve or Christmas, according to Central Dispatch’s incident listing. Three of the Christmas Eve and Christmas accidents occurred on I-75 and three were on roads in Standish Township.

There were 23 traffic stops from Dec. 24-27.
