Single-vehicle accident leaves one dead, one hospitalized
RICHLAND TOWNSHIP — A Sterling man was killed in a single-vehicle accident that occurred in Richland Township in the early morning hours March 12, while a passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The Michigan State Police is investigating the accident, which occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m.
According to a press release from the MSP, a 2005 Ford driven by Adam McConnel, 33-year-old Sterling man was traveling southbound on Sage Lake Road when it reportedly drove off the left side of the roadway while negotiating the corner near County Line Road.
“After going off the roadway the vehicle struck a power pole and continued hitting the road embankment,” the release reads. “The vehicle rolled several times causing the driver to be ejected from the vehicle.”
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and a female passenger was trapped inside. The female was transported by helicopter to Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw in critical condition.
According to the state police, troopers were assisted on scene by the Richland-Logan Fire Department, Twining-Mason-Turner Fire Department, Ogemaw County EMS, Arenac County MMR, Consumers Energy and the Ogemaw and Arenac County Road Commissions.
According to MSP West Branch Post 1st Lt. Chris Luty alcohol is believed to be a factor. However, the accident remains under investigation.
