ARENAC COUNTY — The Standish Area Fire Authority had a busy day Wednesday, Jan. 12.
The fire authority was called out to a rollover accident on I-75 at around 7 a.m., and was then called out to two fires in the afternoon.
Fire Chief Mitch Oliver said the driver involved in the rollover accident sustained minor injuries.
Oliver said that later in the afternoon, the fire authority was called out to a dryer fire on Clyde Street in Omer when another call came in for a second dryer fire on Foco Road in Standish Township. He added that no one was hurt in the fires.
“I was on my way to Omer when a call came in for a fire in Standish Township,” he said.
Oliver said that the fire in Omer was under control quickly with the Omer Fire Department and the Twining-Mason Fire Department responding, and the fire stayed in one location inside the home. He added that the fire in Standish Township caused a more significant amount of damage and backup had to be called in from the Pinconning-Fraser Fire Department and the Sterling Area Fire Department.
“Right now it is undetermined if the house is a loss,” he said about the Standish Township home.
Oliver said that when there are a number of calls out at the same time, local departments come together like a team.
“This is a community that really comes together,” he said. “We (the Standish Area Fire Authority) truly appreciate all the help we receive.”
