Standish City Council to have new faces after election

STANDISH —Four city council seats up for grabs in the city of Standish this November resulted in four candidates filing for the election and in some instances, the incumbents currently on council opted not to file for election.

The four seats include one in each ward (I, II and III) and the mayoral position.

Filing for mayor was current Ward I Council Member Mark Winslow. Incumbent mayor Kevin King did not file for reelection.

In Ward I, the open seat drew one candidate, Edward Reno. The Ward II candidate who will appear on the ballot is Tosha Tunney, as incumbent Lester Cousineau, whose term expires this year did not file for reelection. In Ward III, incumbent Councilman Jerry Nelson is the only candidate that filed for election.

The terms of Clark Sanford, Ward I, Doug Ireland, Ward II, and Richard Vollbach, Ward III do not expire this year.

Those who may want to seek a city council seat missed the May 12 deadline to have their names appear on the ballot, but can still file as write-ins until Oct. 23.
