STANDISH — Standish-Sterling’s boys basketball team found victory Friday night against Bangor John Glenn, defeating the Bobcats 48-39.

“It was a good win,” said coach Tom Murray. “It’s nice to win.”

Murray said John Glenn was able to shut down some of SSC’s leading scorers, but some of the other boys stepped up their play.

Top scorers for Standish-Sterling were Tyler Bartys with 12 points, Mitchell McFarland with 11 and Cole Walderzak with nine.

Murray said the team still isn’t quite where they feel they could be.

“We’ve made some great strides since the beginning of the season,” Murray said. “We’re playing at a level that’s very competitive.”

SSC next faces Oscoda on Wednesday, and Pinconning on Friday.

“Pinconning throttled us last time,” Murray said. “They’ve not lost a leage game in two years.”

Murray said the SSC players have a lot of respect with what Pinconning has done. He said Wednesday’s matchup against Oscoda would be a good warm up for the Pinconning game.

With the victory, SSC is now 6-4 on the season.
