STANDISH TWP. – A two-car accident Dec. 30 resulted in the death of 21-year-old Christine Romps of Standish. Three other occupants are in serious condition as a result of the accident, which occurred near the intersection of Arenac State and Sagatoo roads.

Arenac county Undersheriff Don McIntyre said Romps was a passenger in a Dodge Intrepid that was driven by Joshua Green, 23, of Standish. The car driven by Green allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a Ford full-sized van around 8:10 p.m. Dec. 30. The van was driven by Douglas Black, 49, of Standish. His wife Rita Black was a passenger in the van at the time of the accident.

Green and the two occupants of the van were in serious condition due to the collision, and were transported via flight care to Saginaw St. Mary’s Hospital after the accident, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

“All three of them are still in serious condition,” McIntyre told the Independent Jan. 2.

The press release said the Intrepid was traveling eastbound on Sagatoo Road when it collided with the van, which was traveling northbound on Arenac State Road. Both vehicles overturned, and Romps was pronounced dead at the scene.

McIntyre said the accident is under investigation.

“We’re actually starting to wrap that up,” he said. “We had a reconstructionist who came in and was reconstructing the accident.”

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Saginaw-Chippewa Tribal Police, the Standish Area Fire Authority, MMR and flight care dispatched from Saginaw.
