Sticking to the resolution
Well, all I can say about my New Year’s resolution is, so far so good.
In a column I wrote two weeks ago, I made the statement that I wanted to lose 30 pounds this year. Three weeks into my new resolution, I am proud to say that I have lost seven pounds.
Things seem to be going well, but there have been a number of challenges to overcome.
When I started this challenge, I knew I had to make changes in the way I ate and the portions I ate.
Every day I have urges to go out and buy a sport drink with lunch, or to have a candy bar at work, but so far I have been resisting the urge, but it has been very hard.
Eating smaller portions has also been quite a problem at times. But I have been able to watch that as well.
I feel like I have been getting used to things more and more this past week. Eating healthy has begun to grow on me a bit.
I find myself taking pride in not having a burger for lunch, rather a turkey sandwich. I found that turkey burger is a good substitute for regular burger.
Counting calories and checking food for large amounts of sodium and carbohydrates seems to be effective.
I would still like to get out and be more active, and I hope I will get more free time to do that. But for now, I am happy with the progress.
One thing that worries me more than anything is having a relapse in a month or so.
When someone starts a New Year’s resolution, that first couple of weeks are the easiest. But as time goes on, keeping up with that resolution gets harder.
I think I am going to be able to keep this going for a while. It’s amazing what you can do with a good support system and not to mention, I put this challenge in the paper. I would look silly not going through with it.
And who knows? If I lose 30 pounds before the year is done, Maybe I will go for 40.
