Summer reading program kicks off with Doug Scheer

ARENAC COUNTY — The Mary Johnston Memorial Library and the Au Gres Community Library hosted the first summer reading program of the season June 20 with Doug Scheer’s Magic Bookshelf. Scheer entertained kids in the audience with a variety of games and magic tricks using everything from umbrellas to shoes and a giant pair of underwear.

Each library had its own version of the show — Au Gres had its at 10:30 a.m., while Standish saw its show at 2 p.m. — and kids, along with their family members, filled out each library’s showing area.

The next show will be “It’s Magic” with magician Tom Plunkard. It will be held at the Omer Little Eagle’s Nest Library June 26 at 6 p.m., Au Gres Community Library June 27 at 10:30 a.m., and the Standish Mary Johnston Memorial Library June 27 at 2 p.m.
