Summerfest 2010 sets the stage
STANDISH — Standish area residents better get ready for music this summer, as the Standish Summerfest is getting ready to entertain the masses for free.
Kicking off on June 17, 2010, the Summerfest will host bands that play music that range from the sweet tunes of a lyrical flute to blues inside of the gazebo at the depot on N. Main St. in downtown Standish every Thursday from June 17 to Sept. 2.
Summerfest Coordinator Jeri Harris said she thinks the concerts will be a lot of fun.
“This is the first year. There’s no cost. There’s just music,” she said about the concerts that will start at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. “We have a wide range. There’s nothing that will be sold there, it’s just going to be fun.”
Though nothing will be sold at the concerts, Harris said that the Saganing Eagles Landing Casino is the main sponsor of the event, and that each concert will probably be individually sponsored.
“The Saganing Eagles Landing Casino is our overall sponsor. They’re donating a cost that is going to provide sound,” she said. “Each one will have a sponsor.”
Harris also said that the committee has always just wanted to bring a nice summer music event to downtown Standish.
“Brenda Mac, Curt (Hillman) and I formed a committee to get this to Standish. Rain or shine there will be music,” said Harris. “If people come out that is the goal. We have that beautiful gazebo. Let’s use it.”
