Summerfest is great for Standish
2010 is the first year for the Standish Summerfest.
Every week until the end of summer, there will be some kind of musical act located in the gazebo and at the Depot in Downtown Standish.
From the Rifle River Folk Strings to classic Buddy Holly songs, the Summerfest has entertainment for music fans of all types, and it is free.
Having a weekly attraction downtown can only have positive effects in our view.
The people of Standish and the surrounding area have been through quite a lot.
With unemployment hovering around 20 percent, a free event for the public is great.
We here at the Arenac County Independent support the Summerfest and back everything about this ongoing event.
The hard work of the Summerfest committee needs to have some attention brought to it.
From the painting and maintenance of the gazebo, to the organization of all of the groups, each and every volunteer on the committee needs a pat on the back, along with the hard-working musicians.
Sometimes there seems to be nothing but bad news to cover, with layoffs, the struggling economy and political sniping making the headlines.
It is great to finally see something so simple bring so many people together for nothing but a fun time.
The kind of music in the Summerfest helps people put aside the political conflicts and the hatred that may exist between individuals or groups.
Though there have been events with music downtown before, and other sources of enjoyment, it is just great to see something bring people together for nothing but a fun time in the warm summer evenings of the Sunrise Side.
We here at the Independent support this community, and we are always extremely happy to report on the great news that this county always seems to have.
Let’s keep the good times rolling in Arenac County this summer, and all year long.
