Three businesses broken into early Thursday morning

ARENAC COUNTY — Alarms were going off from Sterling to Southern Lincoln Township between 1:20 a.m. and 2:20 a.m. Thursday morning, as multiple incidents of breaking and entering were reported and one impounded car came up missing.

According to Sheriff James Mosciski, AJ Rental and Equipment and Standish Transmission, both located in Lincoln Township, and Stagray’s Market in Sterling all had security alarms sound, and now the sheriff’s office is investigating the scenes.

Mosciski said whoever perpetrated the crime at Standish Transmission came away with a Chevrolet Beretta that was impounded in an area behind the business.

“They have an area in back where they park vehicles and there was a vehicle missing,” Mosciski said. “Officers were at AJ’s, doing that investigation, when the alarm went off (at Standish Transmission).”

He said that while alarms also alerted officers to the misdeeds at Stagray’s, which was the earliest reported incident, being logged at approximately 1:20 a.m., no major larcenies were reported at Stagray’s or AJ Rentals and Equipment.

“They (suspect) didn’t make entry at AJ’s. They attempted to pry the door open and the alarm went off. It must have scared them away,” Mosciski said. “At Stagray’s they did make entry. It looks like they just took a couple bottles of booze and that’s it.”

The B & E at AJ Rentals and Equipment was reported at roughly 1:50 a.m. and the incident at Standish Transmission was reported at 2:20 a.m.

All three incidents are under investigation. Mosciski said some evidence has been collected and is being examined by the sheriff’s office.

“I’m not saying they’re not related,” he added. “It’s very possible.”
