Trash pickup expected on schedule in Standish

STANDISH — Standish residents’ trash should be picked up at its normally scheduled time following a fire at Sunrise Disposal in Tawas.
Interim City Manager Curt Hillman said the company told the city that trash will be picked up at normal times starting Monday, Sept 19.
“They have rented four trucks from Ohio to use until new trucks they have purchased arrive,” he said.
Hillman said the company is unsure of the quality of the trucks and there could still be some delays in trash pickup in the city.
“Some of these trucks may need to be checked or have some repairs done,” he said. “That is something the company has told us they are waiting to see for themselves.”
A fire the weekend of Sept. 10-11 left Sunrise Disposal without any trucks or a building, according to Hillman.
Hillman urged people to “have patience” if there are any future delays in trash pickup.
“We have had a number of people call and ask what the problem is,” he said. “There still may be some things that need to be fixed, but we want people to know that if their trash is not picked up on time, all they need to do is leave it out by the road and it will be taken care of.”
