Unemployment increases slightly in September in Arenac County


ARENAC COUNTY — After August’s 15.6-percent unemployment rate marked the lowest of the year for Arenac County, September’s rate rose slightly, .2-percent, rounding out at 15.8-percent.

Michigan Labor Market Information released Friday shows that in September, the actual number of unemployed persons in the labor force decreased from August, dropping from 1,261 to 1,244. However, the total labor force in Arenac County dipped significantly, falling to 7,883 from 8,067 – a labor force that’s 184 people smaller than it was in August, a month when the labor force dropped by 141 people from July.

The number of employed persons in Arenac County dropped by 167 people from August to September, falling from 6,806 to 6,639.

The amount of unemployed people in September, 1,244 is the lowest of the year and the 15.8-percent unemployment rate is the second lowest of the year.
