Voter turnout increases from last May election


ARENAC COUNTY — Voter turnout in the precincts involved with the school board member recall are experiencing an increase in the number of voters compared to the last May election.

Deep River Township has the highest turnout so far with 190 voters out of a potential 1,719 voters in the area.

Standish Township has had 121 voters out of about 1,400 possible voters, while Lincoln Township has 56 votes cast out of 689 potential voters.

Standish City Hall is also experiencing an increase in voter turnout with 91 voters showing up so far out of a possible 900-950.

Peggy Burtch, the City of Standish clerk and treasurer, said that the city hall received a total of 37 voters for the last May school board election.

The other townships involved with the election — Adams, Arenac, Clayton, Gibson and Moffatt townships — could not be reached at this time.

The polls close at 8 p.m. tonight.
