W-P dominated by Falcons
OGEMAW HEIGHTS — Ogemaw Heights' girls basketball team wrapped up its most successful regular season in years Friday, getting all the Falcons' active players into the scoring column during an 80-45 victory over Whittemore-Prescott.
"Every player who is not injured scored," said Ogemaw coach Tim Hansen. "It was senior night, so the five seniors (Lauren Gillette, Kristi Killackey, Kaitlin Morrell, Rilee Palm and Kathy Erickson) and played the first five minutes together."
Even with the altered lineup, the Falcons took a 17-6 lead after one quarter and led 33-16 at the half.
The Falcons scored their season high while shooting 48 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the free throw line.
Ashley Thompson scored 30 points to pace the Falcons with 30 points, with Kath Erickson adding a career-high 11 on 4-of-7 shooting.
The Falcons finished the regular season at 16-4 (8-2 NEMC), second place in league play and three games ahead of John Glenn and Standish-Sterling for third place.
Staci Ostrander led Whittemore-Prescott (2-18, 0-10) with nine points.
The Falcons open district tournament play Wednesday, March 4, at Houghton Lake against either Standish-Sterling or the host squad, which face off in Monday's tourney opener.
W-P hosts Indian River Inland Lakes in its first-round district game on Monday.
