WHITTEMORE — Whittemore-Prescott played three quarters of its best basketball of the season Thursday against visiting Sanford-Meridian.

It wasn't enough to pick up a victory, though, as Meridian finished the game with a 24-6 fourth quarter run to claim a 52-32 non-conference victory.

Ashley Tanner scored eight of her 10 points in the first half as the Cards trailed 20-18 at the half.

Both teams scored just eight points in the third quarter, but Meridian turned on the afterburners in the last eight minutes, with seven players scoring down the stretch, led by Shelby Anderson's eight points. Meridian hit 8-of-16 free throws in the fourth quarter. Ashley and Nicole Tanner both fouled out, leaving the Cards with just five eligible players by game's end.

Anderson led all scorers with 18 points as the Mustangs improved to 5-5.

Cory Durham finished with 11 points and Ashley Tanner 10 for the Cards (1-10).
