Whalen’s hosts a variety of music at April’s battle of the bands
STANDISH — Visitors of Whalen’s Inn April 4 had the opportunity to hear several bands and vote for the one they thought was the best as part of the International Space Monkey Alliance’s “Gorilla Warfare” battle of the bands circuit.
Among April’s bands were the James Roberts Band, rock band Lemon Frog, heavy metal band Operation 13, rapper Suubline, and acoustic pop and country musicians the Shannon Johnson Trio.
At the end of the night, Operation 13 led with 23 votes, Lemon Frog followed them with five votes, the James Robert Band and Shannon Johnson Trio had three votes apiece, and Suubline had one vote.
The next stop for the musicians will be Pinconning’s Thee Olde Rendezvous on April 11 at 7 p.m. They will also perform at the Silver Derby Bar in Linwood April 18, and at Bay View Food & Spirits April 25 in Bay City.
The competition has been going on each month since February, and organizer Damon Dubois plans on running it through the year, culminating with the top five bands playing in December.
“The circuit is going great,” Dubois said.
The current top five standings from February and March see Double Barrel Band with 99 votes, Distorted Waltz with 52, Darling Oranges with 51, the Matt Ryan Band with 41, and Blues Mobile with 32. The Matt Ryan Band won March’s competition.
