What we're reading today: Emergency managers, overseas adoptions

Here is some of what we're reading today:

- The Slate reports that tonight will see the 13th full moon of the year, an event that occurs once every three years. If the skies clear up, it should be a very nice sight!

- NPR wrote about an interesting mystery thousands of years old: how did humans develop lactose tolerance?

- The Detroit Free Press reports that opponents of the new emergency manager law signed by Gov. Rick Snyder Dec. 27 are already looking at a legal challenge on the grounds that the law is too similar to the one repealed by voters during the November election.

- And across the ocean, Al Jazeera posted an article about Russian President Vladimir Putin signing a law that prevents American citizens from adopting Russian children.
