Animal shelter participating in free adoption event Oct. 14

STANDISH — Families looking for a new pet can adopt a dog or cat for free at the Arenac County Animal Shelter Oct. 14 during the Empty the Shelters event.

It is the second year in a row the shelter is participating in the event, which is sponsored by the Bissell Foundation. The foundation covers the cost of adoption and spaying or neutering the adoptable pets. Animal shelter employee Kelly Zube said in order to adopt, a pre-approval application must be completed. She said applications are available at the shelter.

Zube said when people stop in for a pre-

approval form, it is a good time to see and play with the animals available for adoption.

“This is a great time to meet the pets and see which one fits your family,” she said.

Five adult dogs, 10 puppies, two adult cats and 24 kittens are up for adoption during the event, Zube said. All of them can also be adopted prior to Oct. 14.

“Animals can be adopted prior to the event at the regular adoption fees,” she said. “Many families fall in love with a pet and don’t want to wait and miss out on getting them.”

Empty the Shelters runs from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 14. For more information, call 989-846-4421. The Arenac County Animal Shelter is located at 3750 Foco Rd. in Standish.
