Annual auction to return to arts council

Posted

STANDISH — The Northeast Michigan Arts Council will be hosting its 34th annual auction Saturday, April 13, with a variety of prizes available for those in attendance.

The event typically draws around 125 attendees, Director Gail Schmidt said, and raises roughly $235,000 to go toward the center’s year-round programming.

The auction fundraiser is a lifeline for the arts council, Schmidt said, since it is the major source of income for arts programming.

“I just think it’s important to have well-rounded activities for the community,” Schmidt said. “It’s nice to offer things for people to do. That’s why we try to have a variety for kids and adults.”

Schmidt said last year a spring snowstorm occurred on the day of the event so only about 50 people came to the auction.

Auction patrons will have a selection of more than 200 items ranging from good vintage furniture to antique and collectible glassware, collectible beer mirrors, baseball cards, two lottery ticket gift baskets and more.

Proceeds fund the Youth Fine Arts Camp, youth entertainment series, Arenac Choraleers and art center programs.

There is no admission fee to attend this event and the doors will open at 9 a.m. for auction patrons to register and view merchandise prior to the 10 a.m. start time
