Annual Lioness bazaar to raise funds for community

Posted

AU GRES –– Shoppers will have the opportunity to peruse a wide variety of vintage items, homemade crafts and the wares of local businesses and home consultant businesses during the fourth annual Au Gres Lioness bazaar July 29.

The event will be held at the North Coast Landscaping pavilion, formerly the Au Gres Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, and is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Deb Sumera, Lioness and co-chairwoman of the Au Gres Lioness bazaar with Sherry Sutkowi, said the vendor list was almost full weeks ahead of schedule, but some spots could still be available.

“We’re almost full,” she said. “We do have a few openings left and they can call me and we’ll see if we can accommodate them.”

Sutkowi said it costs vendors $25 for a 20x20 space.

“We’re so pleased to be able to represent the Lionesses at the annual bazaar and we hope everyone has fun,” Sutkowi said.

Sumera said the funds raised from the bazaar will go back into the community.

“We give to the backpack program, the food bank and scholarships for Au Gres, Standish and Tawas area students,” she said. “If anybody’s in need we donate to them also.”

New to the bazaar this year will be 14 vendor booths that hadn’t been at the event before.

The bazaar will have free admission and free parking. Food will be served all day.

Sumera said the organization reintroduced the event in 2015 after it was canceled for several years.

“I think this is our fourth year that we’ve had it,” she said. “It used to be under somebody else but those people gave it up and the Au Gres Lionesses brought the bazaar back to raise funds for the community and to help needy families.”
