Art pieces from 4-H SPIN clubs to be on display at county building

STANDISH — A number of drawings, sculptures and other crafts made by kids participating in local 4-H Special Interest clubs will be on display at the Arenac County Building Wednesday, May 22.

4-H SPIN Club Coordinator Missy LeFever said the pieces that will be on display are projects that were done over the course of the Clever Cloverbuds, Introduction to Drawing and Arts and Crafts SPIN clubs.

“It’s open to the public and it’s just to give the kids a chance to show off their projects and to let people see what these kids have been working on,” LeFever said.

Some of the projects the club members have been working on include 3D paper sculptures, portrait drawings, splatter paintings and mixed collages.

LeFever explained that members of the Clever Cloverbuds club, who range from ages 5-7, learned about art, science and math while making their own “puffy paint,” which they used to make their own paintings.

Members of the Introduction to Drawing club have spent their class time working on the finer aspects of artwork, LeFever said.

“They have been learning proper shading, how to draw faces, how to draw 3D letters,” LeFever said.

In addition to the art pieces, cookies and refreshments prepared by club members will be available for those in attendance.

SPIN clubs are led by MSU Extension staff or volunteers and give young people in the area the opportunity to learn about a variety of topics including nature, arts, science, engineering, gardening, technology and more.

“We will be having summer programming, different SPIN clubs as well as day camps and we will be participating in summer recreation,” LeFever said. “We are hoping to have a flier with all of our upcoming 4-H events going out to the schools before the end of the school year.”

The art display will be open to the public at 6 p.m.
