Audience can expect plenty of laughs during SSC play

STANDISH — Spectators might recognize some of the characters’ antics during Standish-Sterling Central Theatre’s presentations of “The Hallelujah Girls” Nov. 16-18 at the SSC auditorium.

The play revolves around a group of women who set out to transform an abandoned Georgia church into a day spa, but run into several obstacles in working with each other and dealing with outside factors. Director Judy Harper, who decided to continue directing plays after previously retiring, said she felt the play was a good fit for the drama club.

“I chose the play because of its humor and the use of ensemble casting,” she said. “Every student has their moment during the course of the show.”

The show is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. all three nights. Tickets are available at the door and cost $7 per person and $5 for students. Harper said central theatre students are selling raffle tickets for $100 and $50 spa gift certificates, and Saturday during the play intermission, the winning tickets will be drawn. The winners do not need to be present to win, Harper said.
