Charles Junior “Chuck” Sanders, 79, of Standish passed away Friday, March 17, 2017, at his home while surrounded by his family.

Charles was born Jan. 10, 1938, in Defiance, Ohio, to Charles and Maude (Rose) Sanders. He graduated from Defiance High School in 1957 and Central Bible College in 1961. He and Karen Rose Yoder were married July 29, 1961. He was a licensed and ordained minister of the Assemblies of God in Michigan since 1961. Charles, together with ministry partner Karen, served as senior pastor in Greenville, St. Helen, Clinton, Standish and Albright Shores. He and Karen also served on staff in Saline and Benton Harbor. A joy of their inseparable ministry together was serving for more than 30 years as a clergy couple for Marriage Encounter retreats. Charles is remembered for his inspiring preaching and making everyone he met to feel loved. When you met him you likely heard two things, how he was healed of cancer and his love for Jesus, his savior. He had an incredible love for his family and had great joy in building and giving gifts to them from his workshop. He will be missed greatly, and his family looks forward to seeing him again in heaven.

Charles is survived by his wife, Karen; three sons, Brent (Sue) Sanders, Gregg (Cheryl) Sanders and Nolan (Kami) Sanders; one daughter, Karla (Tim) Shamala; and 10 grandchildren, Christopher Sanders, Melissa Sanders, Andrew (Desiree) Sanders, Matthew Sanders, Brandon Sanders, Trent Sanders, Nathaniel Shamala, Autumn Shamala, Elia Shamala and Brennen Shamala. Charles is survived by three sisters, Dorthy (Rodney) Appel, Mae (Keith) Corwin and Mary (James) Scheele.

He was predeceased by his parents; one sister; and seven brothers.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Faith Alive Church, 2945 Hansen Rd., West Branch, MI 48661. His sons, the Rev. Gregg Sanders and Rev. Nolan Sanders, will be officiating. Family will greet family and friends Monday, March 20, 2017, from 3-8 p.m. at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel.
