Christmas to come early this year for golfers

Posted

Au GRES –– Golfers will have the opportunity to play for charity July 22 during the annual Christmas in July Golf Outing at Knoll View Golf Course.

The outing raises funds annually to assist financially dependent families in Arenac County with Christmas-related expenses. The outing is sponsored by the Kiwanis Arenac County Christmas 4 Kids Committee.

“The Christmas 4 Kids outing is our only fundraiser for our toy program,” event coordinator Deb Dieleman said. “Everything we raise in Arenac County stays in Arenac County, and the program has been able to maintain itself since before when it was Toys for Tots.”

Dieleman said she was expecting the outing to do as well as last year, if not better.

“Arenac County has provided very well for the children, and so the fundraisers and the donations we get take care of our program,” she said. “The golf outing last year raised $7,000.”

It costs $65 per person to play and $260 for a team entry. Corporate team sponsorships are an option for $325, which includes a four-person team and a name displayed on a hole sign.

Dieleman said as of July 6, eight teams had signed up for the outing. There is a limit of 36 teams and a registration deadline.

“We’d be happy to have 20 teams,” Dieleman said. “They still have time to sign up until the 17th and with the cost (to play), we have a hot box, which is items they can take a chance at winning, a lotto board and a 50-50 raffle.”

Dieleman said included in the cost to play is a chicken dinner and each team will have the chance to compete for a prize for the best-decorated golf cart. There will also be bottled water and a cash bar available.

“We have a contest for best-decorated golf carts and we have a Christmas theme,” she said. “All the carts are given garland across the front so they have a little start and they get Christmas goodie bags. The last couple of years we’ve had reindeer drink cozies for everybody and we try to do stuff to make it Christmasy and fun.”

There is also the possibility for golfers to win a 2017 Chevrolet courtesy of Richardson Chevrolet Buick for a hole-in-one on par 3.

A shotgun start is scheduled for 9 a.m. For more information, contact Dieleman at 989-305-2963 or the Knoll View Golf Course at 989-876-4653, or visit golfknollview.com.
