Community disposes of old tires despite rain

Water-filled tires in ditches and yards are known for being mosquito breeding grounds, and with rain falling May 9, several potential mosquito breeding grounds were removed during the Arenac County Conservation District’s tire collection. People from the area brought old tires on trailers or in pickup beds to the road commission garage in Omer, where the tires were packed into a semitrailer so they could be transported out of the county and recycled.
