Events galore in store for Halloween

To celebrate Halloween or just harvest time, take advantage of these options that cater to kids all the way up to seniors. The Independent hopes all have a safe and enjoyable time.

Alger

Alger Parks and Rec will be holding its trunk or treat and costume contest Oct. 31 from 6-7:30 p.m. on Joy Street, in front of the post office and memorial park. Costume winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m. Those wishing to participate as a trunker can call 989-859-8418.

Au Gres

Trick-or-treating in the city of Au Gres runs from 5-8 p.m.

Standish

Faith Alive Church in Standish is hosting its free Light the Night event for the community Oct. 31 from 5:30-9 p.m. Parents can bring their kids to a safe, well-lit place where they can enjoy a bounce house, age-appropriate games, popcorn and cotton candy, and lots of candy. The church is located at 3410 Pine River Rd., Standish.

Trick-or-treating in the city of Standish runs from 5-8 p.m.

Sterling

MediLodge of Sterling is holding its trunk or treat Oct. 30 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the parking lot, located at 500 School Rd., Sterling. Families can come in costume and enjoy cider, candy
and treats. 

Sterling Wesleyan Church is hosting its longtime Light Up the Night event Oct. 31 from 5-7:30 p.m. Families can come for trick-or-treating, hot dogs, hot chocolate, candy and goodies. A fire truck may be on hand at the church. For more information, call Pastor John Tousciuk at 989-942-4626.

Trick-or-treating in the village of Sterling begins at 5 p.m. 

Twining

The Twining-Mason-Turner Fire Department and Twining Baptist Church, located across from each other, are teaming up again for a trunk-or-treat event from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 31. A contest will be held for trunk decorations, with three prizes up for grabs. Residents can come hand out candy. Organizer Kelly Grauherr said last year there were around 200 kids.
