Irene C. Nimeth, 84, lifelong resident of Alger, passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017.

Irene was born in Bay City on April 21, 1933, to Bruce and Bernice (Moore) Curtis. She was a devoted and loving mother who lived a long and active life. Irene was an accomplished and passionate obstetrics nurse at Tolfree Memorial Hospital where she worked for 30 years skillfully ushering new life into this world. She was an avid outdoorswoman, spending much of her free time hunting and fishing all over Michigan and Canada with her husband Frank. Also, for those who knew her, some may say she was an amateur “treasure” hunter as she always came home with curiosities from everywhere she visited.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Nimeth Jr.; and one son, Larry.

She is survived by one sister, Maureen Diffin; her five children, Christine Byrome, Sue (Don) Worden, Lynn (Tom) Morris, Dale Nimeth and Gary (Chris) Nimeth; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel with interment to follow in Alger Cemetery, Alger. The family greeted family and friends from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at the funeral home. A dinner in honor of Irene will be held at the Horton Township Hall in West Branch following the services at Alger Cemetery.
