Irene “Edna” Broadworth, 96, of Au Gres passed away very peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving husband and family Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

Edna was born July 20, 1921, to Jacob and Marie (Wagner) Herstein in Turner. She will be forever remembered for her passion of gardening, doing puzzles, reading, traveling, baking, embroidering, playing cards, snowmobiling and spending the winters in Florida. She was a longtime member of the Au Gres Snowmobile Club, the Coachmen Club and the Point Au Gres Snowmobile Club. Above all, Edna will be cherished for her love and devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edna married her husband and best friend, Walter Broadworth, in Goshen, Ind., on Dec. 5, 1938. Together they were inseparable and celebrated 79 beautiful years of marriage.

She is survived now by her beloved husband, Walter Broadworth of Au Gres; three children, Darlene (William) Beier, Colin Broadworth and Jean (Charles) Savage, all of Au Gres; grandchildren, Karen (Lou) Medina, Kimberly (Craig) Moore, Karl (Theresa) Beier, Heather (Dean) Worden, Thomas (Jennifer) Savage, Bonnie (Alex) Porter, Walter (Christyle) Broadworth, Colin Broadworth and Amy Wheeler; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Addison, Natalie, MacKenzie, Max, Samantha, Hailey, Nicholas, Julia, Jordyn, Luke, Spencer, Aidan, Blake, Chloe, Brandy, Dino, Kaitlyn, Keely, Joseph, Emily and Denton; sister-in-law, Lucy Herstein of Fenton; four nieces and nine nephews; Steve, a close special family friend; and many other dear friends.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Marie Herstein; daughter-in-law, Mary Broadworth; sisters, Katherine MacLeod, Pauline Gallatin and Frieda Herstein; and her brothers, Jacob, Henry and Norman Herstein.

Her family would like to extend a special thanks to Amber, Whitney, Kim, Lonnie, Thomas, Sara and Megan from Heartland Hospice; and Jennifer, Colleen, Melissa and Rebekah from Northeast Michigan Home Health. Each of you gave such loving care to Mom.

Funeral services for Edna will be held Friday, April 13, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Buresh Funeral Home in Au Gres with the Rev. Lonnie Severance officiating. Her family will welcome friends for visitation Thursday from 2-8 p.m. Interment will take place in the Sims-Whitney Cemetery.
