Joseph R. Goodroe, 74, of Sterling passed away Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw after a lingering illness.

Joseph was born June 4, 1943, to the late Martin and Edna (Federspiel) Goodroe in Standish. Joe married the former Arlene Dickhausen June 27, 1964. Together they owned and operated Goodroe Farms in Sterling. Arlene passed away Dec. 22, 2009. He enjoyed traveling and seeing parts of the country. Being the farmer that he was, he thoroughly loved showing his farm to school kids. He also enjoyed the coffee club he had with his farming friends. Joe was also a retired volunteer fireman for the Sterling Fire Department.

Joe is survived by three sons, William (Tammy) Goodroe, Daniel (Tracy) Goodroe and David (Kristi) Goodroe; and one daughter, Kim (Alex) Rosebrugh. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jake (Michele), Brandon (Heaven), Ashley, Danielle, Jon (Rachael), Ann, Rebecca, Ty, Maggie, Kaitlyn and Emily; and four great-grandchildren, Eli, Kash, William and Payton. He is survived by two brothers, Jim (Carol) Goodroe and Ed (Mary) Goodroe; four sisters-in-law, Donna (Jim) Dubey, Margie Goodroe, Ruthann (Bob) Rodgers and Rosie Hill; also several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by siblings, Jack Goodroe, Kenneth Goodroe, Dorothy Johnroe and Robert Goodroe.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel with Pastor John Tousciuk officiating. Interment will be in Sterling Cemetery, Sterling. The family will greet family and friends Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, from 2-8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until time of service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, those considering an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Camp Fish Tales.
