Karen Kay DuFort Petty, 71, of Standish passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018.

She was born Jan. 18, 1947, in Standish to Edward and Jean (Black) DuFort. She married Rusty Petty in 1978. He preceded her in death in 1997.

While she held several jobs throughout her life, including caretaker to a beloved aunt, the job she relished most was that of mother and homemaker. Karen was a skilled baker, candy maker, crafting enthusiast and music lover. She loved her family, her hometown, her collection of snowmen and the Michigan Wolverines. She tried to spread peace and love to all those she met.

Karen is survived by her three children, Chad of Standish, Heather (James) Murphy of Bay City and Dustin of East Lansing; two grandsons, Brandon and Evan of Bay City; brother, Robert of Ossineke; brother, Ned (Carol) of Standish; sisters-in-law, Mary DuFort of Essexville, Earlene (Larry) Foster of Sterling, Phyllis (John) Tremble of Standish, Bonnie Krystyniak of St. Helen and Melanie Petty of Standish; several beloved nieces and nephews and cousins; and close longtime friends, Mary Kay Mielke and Shirley Kraska.

She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Jake DuFort; sister, Nancy Fisher; nephew, Tim DuFort; and special in-laws, Earl and Jewell Petty.

Cremation has taken place, and the family plans to hold a celebration of Karen’s life at a later time. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel.
