Karl Albert Lietz, 82, of Standish passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at his residence.

Karl was born April 19, 1936, in Detroit to the late Frank K. and Rita (Vinet) Lietz. Karl proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea. He joined the Army Dec. 2, 1957, where he attained the rank of PFC E-3 (T). Karl’s last duty assignment was Headquarters Battery, 1st Howitzer Battalion, 76th Artillery, Fort Devens, Mass., until he was honorably discharged Dec. 1, 1963. He was an avid hunter (big game and small game), fisherman and duck hunter. Karl loved spending time in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was a tool and die maker by trade and with this engineering ability he had a great mind to figure things out. Karl loved astronomy and history, especially ancient history. He was a kind, gentle, quiet person and had a great affinity for music. Karl loved the Standish area, especially being with his family.

Karl is survived by his daughter, D’Arcy Lietz; and his sister, Violet McGarry.

Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 25, 2019, at 4 p.m. at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel with the Rev. Rebecca Owsley officiating. Karl will receive full military honors. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit. The family will greet family and friends from 11 a.m. Monday until time of service at 4 p.m.
