Kevin R. Schutte

Died Jan. 6, 2019

Our talented and loving son, Kevin Ross Schutte, 24, passed away suddenly at his home Jan. 6, 2019.

He was born Feb. 14, 1994. Kevin graduated from Au Gres-Sims High School in 2012 where he participated in band, football, knowledge bowl, National Honor Society and drama. He graduated from Central Michigan University cum laude May 2018 where he participated in many different music ensembles. He was affiliated with the music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha.

Kevin will be remembered for playing trombone with excellence. He had an enormous passion for jazz music, and loved to improvise. Kevin's passion for performing music could be felt with every performance he made. He researched unaccompanied trombone solos during his time at CMU. He taught private lessons, and loved seeing the growth within his students. Kevin loved to learn. He took extra music classes at CMU simply because he wanted to. He would often read articles about music, economics, politics and other topics that would make one think outside the box. He loved sharing what he learned with those around him.

Kevin loved telling stories. One of his favorite stories to tell was when they were able to fit the entire trombone studio inside the smaller elevator at CMU’s School of Music, with their instruments. He would often tell this story every time he was in an elevator with classmates, whether he knew them personally or not. Kevin loved telling jokes and making puns whenever he could. As laid back as Kevin was, he could also be animated. He loved to make funny faces, bob his head to music he really liked and impersonate various cartoon characters. Kevin knew how to light up a room with his smile, his wit and his all-around kind, loving nature.

He will be greatly missed by his loving and supportive parents, Bob and Jackie Schutte of Turner; his brothers, Ryan Schutte of Detroit and Dylan Schutte of Turner; his fun-loving dog, Prince, with which Kevin spent many hours playing Frisbee; the love of his life, Zoe Johnson of Grand Rapids; many aunts and uncles, but especially his Aunt Carol Baranic, who helped during his beginning teaching career mentoring him. He had a passion for music and would have become a tremendous teacher if his short life hadn’t ended in suicide.

A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at 3 p.m. at St Mark Catholic Church, 415 S. Court St., Au Gres. The family will receive guests beginning at 2 p.m. until the time of service. The family has invited all who loved Kevin to join us at 4:30 for appetizers and memories at Edmonds’ Au Gres Inn, 324 E. Huron Rd., Au Gres.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Au Gres-Sims Band, P.O. Box 333, Au Gres, MI 48703. Online condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
