MMR to hold second annual Stuff the Ambulance to help those in need

Posted

STANDISH — Toys, nonperishable food items and hygiene products will be collected during Arenac County MMR’s second annual Stuff the Ambulance Dec. 2.

Emergency Medical Technician Joseph Baker said an ambulance will be parked at Family Fare in Standish the day of the event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, for people who are unable to make it to Family Fare that Saturday, there is one drop box each at Family Fare, Shopko and Family Dollar in Standish, as well as Sunrise Market in Au Gres.

“Not everyone can get out on the 2nd, so this way if they want to donate, they can donate when they get a chance,” Baker said.

Last year one drop box was set up, but Baker said the number was increased this year due to the popularity of last year’s inaugural Stuff the Ambulance in Arenac County.

“We set up one last year at Shopko, but we set up a whole bunch more this year, because of the businesses that were involved with it,” he said. “They thought it was very cool what we were doing.”

Stuff the Ambulance was a success last year, Baker said, but this year MMR is hoping for and expecting an even better collection.

“I feel it went really well last year,” he said. “We got a great outreach of people wanting to be more involved with it this year.”

Food and hygiene products collected during the event and in the drop boxes will be distributed to Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church in Standish and St. Mark Catholic Church in Au Gres. Food pantries operate out of both churches.

Toy donations will be distributed to Kiwanis of Arenac County for its Christmas 4 Kids program.
