Monica Jane King, 77, of Sterling passed away at her home Saturday, May 13, 2017.

Monica was born July 20, 1939, in West Branch to the late Raymond and Effie Mae (Tanner) Yantz. She married Eugene King Nov. 30, 1957, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. They were married 56 years before Gene passed away June 19, 2014. Monica and Gene owned and operated Iva’s Chicken Dinners in Sterling from 1983-2011. She had worked at the restaurant since she was 9 years old. Monica enjoyed going to the casino with Elaine and Chris. She also enjoyed watching Tigers baseball games and going on pontoon boat rides with her family. She loved to watch her grandchildren’s basketball games. Monica especially loved to spend time with her family.

Monica is survived by her children, Karla (Jeffery) Jurek, Kelly (Raymond) Mielke, Kendra (Chuck) Bugh and Kevin (Natalee) King. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Kyle Jurek, Kassidy Jurek, Katelynn (Michael) Hergott, Kalee Mielke, Karissa (Doug) Walker, Kelsye (Brandon) Herman, Zachary Bugh, Branden Bugh, Chloee King, Liam King, Ethan King, Truman King and Marshall King; and four great-grandchildren, Aiden Walker, Bentley Herman, Brylee Walker and Andi Walker. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her fifth great-grandchild, Baby Hergott. Monica is also survived by one brother, Jerome (Diane) Yantz; and one sister, Elaine Koin.

She was predeceased by one brother, Allen Reeves.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, Standish, with the Rev. Fr. David Parsch officiating with inurnment in Pine River Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Monday, May 15, from 2-8 p.m. On Tuesday Monica will lie in state from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the wishes of the family.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to McLaren Hospice and to caregivers Alice Lake, Janet Nelson, Lea Baker and Melissa Gibbs. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel.
