NEM baseball reunion scheduled for July 16


OMER — A total of 10 former Northeastern Michigan Baseball League players will be inducted into the league’s hall of fame during its annual reunion at Ye Olde Courthouse in Omer July 16.

The program is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., but people can arrive as early as 11 a.m., which is when the museum located inside the courthouse will be open for viewing, according to a press release.

Hall of fame honorees from the defunct league’s Northern Division will be Joe McGregor, Bernie Link, Don Templin and Gary Somers. Southern Division honorees will be Ray Love and John Lambert. Posthumous honorees will be Pat Marx, Dennis Arndt, Bill Gillings and Pinky Friebe.

A meal including chicken, meatballs, potatoes, corn, cole slaw and more will be served at the reunion. Tickets are $17 for adults and $8.50 for children 8-12 years old. Children 7 and younger can attend for free.

The NEM league operated from 1916-1986. A total of 52 teams and thousands of players competed in the league, which included teams from Saginaw and Midland up to Alpena.
