Shirley A. Burtch, 78, of Sterling passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017.
Shirley was born Nov. 4, 1938, to the late Jess D. and Martha A. (Pipkins) Blanton in Malden, Mo. She married Earl L. Burtch Oct. 3, 1958, in Madison County, Ill. Earl passed away April 16, 1988. Shirley was a staunch supporter of veterans, relief of the Jews and an avid admirer of John Hagee Ministries. When able she attended Faith Baptist Church in Standish. Shirley held several secretarial positions at the Arenac County Courthouse over the years. She worked on the election board, was active in politics in the township of Clayton and eventually retired in 2016 with more than 40 years as the township treasurer. Shirley also held a position at McTaggart’s Wholesale. Shirley liked working and serving with the public. She allowed residents to drop off their taxes seven days a week as long as she was awake.
Shirley is survived by one daughter, Carrie (Joseph) Liberty; three sons, Randy Burtch, Michael (Jean) Burtch and Paul (Terrie) Burtch; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Shirley is also survived by one brother, Robert (Shirley) Blanton.
She was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters; and both parents.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel, Standish, with the Rev. Ron Lucas officiating. Interment will be in Clayton Township Cemetery, Sterling. Family will greet family and friends Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday.
