Shop with a Cop returns to Arenac County

STANDISH — The Arenac County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Michigan State Police and Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police, participated in the Shop with a Cop program once again, taking kids out for a $100 shopping spree, where they picked out different items to purchase for Christmas.

Arenac County Undersheriff Don McIntyre said the whole event is a community effort and without donations from businesses and individuals, a program like this would not be possible.

“It meets a definite need and all of our children are selected from families that are having a hard time that year. We try to spread it out as much as possible and the kids love it,” McIntyre said. “It tugs at you when you see a kid who has a $100 gift card that they could spend all on themselves and they spend very little on themself and try to buy gifts for everyone in their family.”
