Skilled nursing bazaar scheduled for Nov. 10

STANDISH — A Christmas bazaar Nov. 10 in the skilled nursing wing at St. Mary’s of Michigan Standish will give people a chance to buy homemade crafts and clothing items while supporting skilled nursing resident outings throughout the year.

Occupational Therapist Lisa Lemke said around 25 vendors were signed up as of Monday, Nov. 6, and vendor fees help pay for residents of the facility to go to the casino, go bowling and take other trips. Lemke said skilled nursing residents go on outings once a month.

“It gives the residents, especially long-term residents, the opportunity to get out and see these sites, and to participate in activities outside of our building,” she said. “It adds to their socialization and opportunities for independence.”

Many handmade items are available at the bazaar, Lemke said.

“It can be anything from craft items to jewelry, towels and baby items, candles,” she said.

Patrons can buy lunch at the bazaar, according to Lemke.

“Our cafeteria is open and they have a special priced luncheon for the day,” she said

The bazaar is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to

3 p.m. in the skilled nursing wing on the east side of the hospital. Although the event is quickly approaching, more vendor spaces are available.
