Two suffer life-threatening injuries in multi-vehicle collision on US-23


Au GRES TWP. — Two occupants in a Ford station wagon suffered life-threatening injuries in a four-vehicle accident on US-23 in Au Gres Thursday, Oct. 5.

Arenac County Undersheriff said police believe the incident occurred when a van traveling south on US-23 collided with a station wagon, which was also traveling southbound. The collision resulted in the station wagon being propelled into the northbound lane and colliding with a northbound pickup truck pulling a trailer. McIntyre said the van also made impact with a second southbound vehicle, a pickup truck, following the collision with the station wagon.

The occupants of the station wagon were extricated from the vehicle by firefighters from the Au Gres-Sims-Whitney Fire Department. They were transported to St. Mary’s of Michigan Standish Hospital from the scene of the crash via Arenac County MMR.

US-23 was closed and traffic was rerouted onto Swenson and Nearman roads as emergency responders investigated and cleaned up debris at the scene.

Assisting the Arenac County Sheriff’s Department at the scene were the Michigan State Police, the Au Gres-Sims-Whitney Fire Department, Au Gres City Police and MMR. The crash occurred around 11 a.m. Thursday.
