Winds cause power outage to 30 percent of county

ARENAC COUNTY — High winds overnight Dec. 4-5 caused power outages throughout the county, with 29.7 percent of the county losing electricity.

According to the Consumers Energy outage map, 3,175 out of 10,707 Consumers customers were without power as of 12:45 p.m. Dec. 5. The majority of the outages were in Sims, Clayton and Mason townships and in the Omer area. Smaller outages were also reported around Sterling and Standish.

A downed line in Standish Township reported around 8:50 a.m. Tuesday caused northbound and southbound US-23 to be closed at Sagatoo Road, according to a press release from the Michigan Department of Transportation. The road was reopened a little after 12 noon Tuesday.

Estimated restoration times were listed as 11 p.m. Dec. 6.
